Reliable funding for food recovery
Brightly's methane avoidance credits offer a new source of critical funding for food recovery organizations while helping companies reduce Scope 3 emissions.
How it works:
01
Food rescue
Surplus food is rescued from waste streams by food recovery organizations, which distribute it to local communities experiencing food insecurity.
02
Data analysis
Brightly collects detailed data on the type, weight, and destination of rescued food, then calculates avoided methane emissions using our proprietary platform.
03
Verification & validation
The carbon project and emissions calculations are audited by a third party to ensure they are accurate, additional, and credible within recognized carbon standards.
04
Carbon credit generation
High-integrity carbon credits are generated using Verra's VM0046 methodology, representing one metric ton of CO2e avoided through food recovery.
05
Carbon revenue
When companies purchase Brightly credits, a majority of the revenue flows back to food rescue partners, helping them recover more food and amplify impact.

"Food banks are doing everything they can to rescue and distribute food, but the reality is we need more funding to keep up with the scale of the problem. Revenue from carbon credits could be a game-changer - not just to sustain operations, but to expand them and feed more people."

Immediate methane avoidance
When food decomposes in landfills, it emits harmful methane emissions. Food waste reduction is one of the fastest ways to cut methane emissions.
